    These are all great news on the April Fool's Day.

 

    Roughly two weeks ago, Vaclav Claus, the controversial Czech President, whose country currently houlds the EU presidency, was quoted by a French weekly as saying the following sentences:

    "One thing is sure, just as it was in the USSR, very important desicions are not taken in the countries that they concern."

    History sometimes really makes big jokes!

A fantastic opening!

People say China would get the most gold medals this time, but that's not the core point for me.

Besides trying to be a major player, China should also learn to be a good stage-builder.

A successful Olympic games is in its eccence a contribution to the whole human being.

Tonight, it is a moment for dreams to come true, not only for Chinese, but also for foreigners, for the rich, the poor, the white and the black.

One world, one dream!

The quake is something that has happened and this fact could not be changed. It will anyway remain in our history, but not as something formidable. Instead, it is a dense demonstration of the goodness, courage, and unity of our people. It tells us nothing could beat down China, as long as we are determined and united.

However, we still have much work to do. We still have to deal with plenty of domestic problems, not to mention the international ones. Most imminently, we need to hold a sucessful Olympic Games, as we have promised the world.

So we should not be indulged in the sadness any longer. We have to face the reality, face our lives, and more over, to face and fight all the future challenges.
